In memory of the photographic film

Do you remeber the days of photo film? and how you would have to peer at a long strip of pictures with that odd brown hue and then wait a while before you could finally have the processed final product?...I hope you are as thankful as I am for digital, instant photography. There are some things that make me feel 'old skool' at times...photo film is one of them...

Of Words and Paying Bills

Actions speak louder than words. I have been thinking about a friend who recently made a decision to leave a man- a man generally considered to be a 'good man'- because his actions were somehow bizarrely not aligned with his words. I love you! I would do anything for you! You are the only woman for me!... and so on and so forth...yet, he, also, felt that calling her once day to check on how she was doing was too much to ask, he was too busy with work and life, after all!- how could she not understand that??... Anyhow, I have had my fair share of experiences with men such as this one- men who have been convinced that all we women want is to be 'told things'-that, that is the best way to placate us. Well, here's the thing, over the years, I have come to learn that men are innately choleric- a temperament whose principle feature is working at things/ getting things done. Thus, what a man does is way more important than what he says. In fact, the man considered mo...

Friday's Girl :-)

It takes a Village...

I have made mention, here, of my desire to have a baby (babies-if it is possible- triplets to be precise). On the one hand, I acknowledge that this desire is likely wrought of my recent need for a challenge, a project, something I can immerse myself in. On the other, the stirring has had me thinking about children and the huge responsibility parenting is- a thing, I must add, that seems not to come to people's minds when they are planning to have children. It takes a village to raise a child - an ancient African proverb asserts. The English quasi- equivalent that comes to mind is the John Donne quote with the line, No man is an island; entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main... These sayings highlight the importance of having a support system around you when you decide to have a child. They emphasize the centrality of the family structure in society. Their underlying assertion is that the character of each one of us i...

Of Houses of God & Stern Warnings :-)

Taking my evening walk/ jog everyday always allows me some entertainment in the form of the sights I get to see. I wonder who gave 'born-again' churches the memo that their names must be high sounding and long... Holy Spirit Restoration ...what happened to the Holy Spirit that He may need to be restored? Naalya Solution Centre ..should I consider this a guarantee that I can find ALL solutions to my problems here? I can but wonder... As for Afronica Bar & Restaurant, I was quite amused to read their very stern warning to all and sundry. Note the spellings of sandals, inciting and violence and then there is the thoroughly confusing bit about parking...who is actually allowed to park inside this place???!

Editing

The Jennifer Lopez perfume There is a word that has become popular with my girl-friends and I in conversation. The word is editing. When we use it, it does not carry its generic meaning but instead refers to the process that every self-respecting woman undergoes before she presents herself to the outside world. Ideally, when a woman wakes up, she should, take a bath/ shower, apply some lotion to the whole body, spray some perfume, apply some 'wrinkle- halting' cream to the face, use some lip balm and make sure your hands and feet do not look like you were rescued from a digging career on a 19th century farm! So today, I share with you my 'editing tools':-) The Vaseline lip balm I think the quality of sexiness comes from within. It is something that is in you or it isn't and it really doesn't have much to do with breasts or thighs or the pout of your lips: Sophia Loren The Forever Living Face cream Age is an issue of mind over...
