Insanity...

So, I finally acknowledged the veracity of this saying. This week I began the journey towards regaining my sanity-not without some protracted sobbing and lots of mucus to clean up :), true, but I determinedly set my ship to sail away from the 'troubles' of my love life (a la Craig David). I have been flogging dead horses- that phrase again :(. I have been giving chances unnecessarily, hoping the persons given a chance would be different, would do things differently. I am done. Back to my erstwhile proggy of buying houses as opposed to building houses...building sucks :(... Now, to work on 'sanitizing' myself. In other news, I was bought five lovely dresses by my dear Korukundo which are going a long way in cheering my bums up. Liza, you rock! and then you also rule! :-)

Roomate Types :-)

I am the cleaner...I think it has reached the obsesssive, compulsive level :(...yeah, I know...

When you thought I wasn’t looking You hung my first painting on the refrigerator And I wanted to paint another. When you thought I wasn’t looking You fed a stray cat And I thought it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn’t looking You baked a birthday cake just for me And I knew that little things were special things. When you thought I wasn’t looking You said a prayer And I believed there was a God that I could always talk to. When you thought I wasn’t looking You kissed me good-night And I felt loved. When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes And I learned that sometimes things hurt— But that it’s alright to cry. When you thought I wasn’t looking You smiled And it made me want to look that pretty too. When you thought I wasn’t looking You cared And I wanted to be everything I could be. When you thought I wasn’t looking— I looked . . . And wanted to say thanks For all those things you did When you thought I wasn’t looking. ...

It takes a Village...

I have made mention, here, of my desire to have a baby (babies-if it is possible- triplets to be precise). On the one hand, I acknowledge that this desire is likely wrought of my recent need for a challenge, a project, something I can immerse myself in. On the other, the stirring has had me thinking about children and the huge responsibility parenting is- a thing, I must add, that seems not to come to people's minds when they are planning to have children. It takes a village to raise a child - an ancient African proverb asserts. The English quasi- equivalent that comes to mind is the John Donne quote with the line, No man is an island; entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main... These sayings highlight the importance of having a support system around you when you decide to have a child. They emphasize the centrality of the family structure in society. Their underlying assertion is that the character of each one of us i...

Body and Soul

'Ah, true! I know she is an angel, and I am a presumptuous dog to dream of possessing such a treasure; but, nevertheless, I would sooner die than relinquish her in favour of the best man that ever went to heaven - and as for her happiness, I would sacrifice my body and soul - ' Mr. Huntington in the book  'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall' by Anne Bronte I am smack in the middle of my ovulation and though I have to deal with heat that keeps emanating from the centre of me, I am happy to have clear facial skin and the constant feeling of sexiness. God is interesting. He ensured that during the female's most fertile time she would look her best and be her most confident; that way ensuring that the male is attracted to her, leading to  that other  action that results in offspring/ propagation of the human species :-). I digress. Since Saturday I have been listening to Soul music; Anita Baker, Lionel Richie, Luther Vandross, Puff Johnson, Lisa Stansfield, ...

Talking Trumps Thinking

. Trump - get the better of; "the goal was to best the competition" best , outdo , outflank , scoop beat , beat out , vanquish , trounce , crush , shell - come out better in a competition, race, or conflict; "Agassi beat Becker in the tennis championship"; "We beat the competition"; "Harvard defeated Yale in the last football game" outmaneuver , outmanoeuvre , outsmart - defeat by more skillful maneuvering; "The English troops outmaneuvered the Germans"; "My new supervisor knows how to outmaneuver the boss in most situations" Growing up, my mother seemed to oft get into fights with nannies and house helps who when they were reprimanded for doing something wrong would quickly defend themselves by saying, 'mbadde ndowoza...' (I thought...) .  ' I thought you had noticed we had ran out of salt', 'I thought you had seen the electricity bill'...'I thought', 'I thought', ...

The one other thing

I love reading. I love writing. I love watching movies. I love handbags, shoes and dresses (all kinds of dresses). The one other thing I really love is listening to music. Music speaks to me. Lyrics are important to me- am not one of those, 'I just like the beat' people. Music transports me to seasons/ times in my life- even particular events. I re-smell scents when I listen to a song that played when that scent first hit my nostrils. I re-hear sounds that were in the background when I first heard a song. I re-see happenings that were underway as that song played. I re-taste flavours that met my palate when this song was playing. I re-feel emotions that were coursing through my veins as a song was playing. As I type, I am listening to India Arie . The woman can sing. Her voice soothes me. Her music carries me to cool Sunday afternoons, cups of tea laced with honey, a doting partner and a good book. It is deep, feel-good music all at once. One of her songs 'Beautiful...

Awake, yet...

So, I had this well laid plan, I would go about my business all day Sunday and then work all night to make sure I beat some bu deadlines... I am awake, but I have no unction...no desire to work...yet, I am awake...so, what do I do?... I blog... I just said to a friend during a phone call, that I am focusing on work because at least with it I am still 'in control'. I can predict, forecast...in other parts of my life, not so... So, let me work...perhaps if I dropped dead tomorrow, my epitaph would read; 'Here lies Lynn, the worker female (read bee) :-)

Catch a Rabbit :-)

It's been said that laughter is the best medicine. Researchers have been on the front line to study exactly what happens when laughter takes place and how our immune systems are protected and made better by laughter. Two researchers from Loma Linda university in California, have published their study on how laughter affects our immune system. They are Dr. Lee Berk and Dr. Stanley Tan and their results and conclusions were as follows. Laughing was found to reduce blood pressure, it was also found to reduce stress hormones. This will ensure that effects of stress for you will be a thing of the past for you. Laughter was also found to increase muscle flexion which ensure proper function of the muscles. Also with laughter, there was an increase in infection fighting T cells.  So, here goes... The LAPD, The FBI, and the CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. The President decides to give them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest and ea...

Amy Winehouse; More Wine than House?

So, Amy Winehouse is dead (the one who caused Russell Brand to say, 'Her surname is beginning to sound like a description of her liver'  )...and I am not only reminded that life is short but also that we individually have a role to play in making or breaking ourselves... her death has also brought to mind a TED Talk done by Elizabeth Gilbert of the 'Eat, Pray, Love' fame, I listened to a couple of months ago and liked and how true it is that creativity can be a 'curse'...
